Rainwater Cisterns work everywhere in the world, (
for those with even just a small piece of ground [even RV's & tents] to reside upon,
this can be done). Just protect it from insects and sunlight and also a closet sized
Micro Green growing area, (with at the least 1 fluorescent light) can be
accomplished by most all adults, thereby extending or replacing some of their fresh
grown food supplies and all within 7 - 14 days until 1st harvest and there are several
harvests per small tray normally possible.
From the rainwater (600 gallons can be collected from 1 inch of rainfall per 1000
sq ft of collection area), always remove the first flush of water from actual collection
area due to fly by droppings, then remove "TDS" ( which stands for "total dissolved
solids" - not the Democrats latest problem of Trump Derangement Syndrome).
Always, Triple filter the drinking water (10 micron, 5 micron then 2 micron filters of
some kind) and then boil it (or UV stabilize which is much better) before ever drinking
rainwater and for other uses save your cleaner fresh water and replace it with
greywater reuse ( from washing machine, tub & shower water AND NEVER USE
KITCHEN WATER !).
This easily replaces 1/2 to 3/4 of the potable water drawn
down, from the collected cistern, as it's used just for things like flushing toilets
and watering plants. Filter it before using it that way too (even going through some
plants works great for filtering it for greywater reuse). When we design/Build
off grid homes for my clients, these are just a few of the things we design into our
structures, as they are designed to be able to be off grid, from the start.
